Competitive Category

  • Please see the Repertoire and Prizes section below for required pieces for competitive entrants.


Non-competitive Category

  • Students may choose to enter in the non-competitive category, which allows them to play repertoire of their choice and receive feedback from judges.

Duet Category
  • Each age category is also open to duet entries with repertoire of choice. The entry fee for duos is waived if at least one performer is entered as a soloist. 
  • Both duet members must be current CFA members.

Pianists/Rehearsals
  • Pianists will be provided for each age group at no additional charge to students. Students will have the opportunity to rehearse in a group with the pianists briefly on the day of the competition. If a student wishes to rehearse with a competition pianist before the competition, it is his or her responsibility to contact the pianist, schedule rehearsals, and pay for these rehearsals accordingly.

Entry Fees

The same fees will apply to students in both competitive and non-competitive categories:


K-5: $20 

6-12: $40

Duet category with at least one member entered in a solo category: Free

Duet category if neither member is entered as a soloist: $30

Once your membership is approved (please allow 1-2 days for us to do this manually), log into the CFA website to access the K-12 Honors Competition Registration form.


Registration closes on April 5.

Minuet 1 from Suzuki Book 1 (with repeats)


Prizes: Trophy Awards

Grades 3-5

Serenade by Haydn (Concert & Contest Collection)

Prizes: $25, $20, $15 gift cards for music-related merchandise 

Grades 6-8

Vivace from Sonata No. 1 (FM) by Telemann (no repeats) 

(Feel free to use your preferred edition.)

AND 

Sicilienne by Faure (24 Short Concert Pieces)


Prizes: $100, $60, $40

Grades 9-12

Danse de la Chèvre by Honegger 

AND 

Mozart Flute Concerto in D Major, K. 314, III. Rondo (entire movement with cadenza)

Prizes:

1st place: $125 + 2018 Flute Fair Guest Artist Master Class slot + performer scholarship to 2018 Summer Flute Institute at MSU Denver

2nd place: $100
