Promoting collaboration, inspiration, and participation for flutists throughout the state of Colorado

2020 Student Honors Competition

The Colorado Flute Association is committed to supporting the Colorado flute community during these unprecedented times. Following mandates set forth by the Governor the CFA has decided to transition the 2020 K-12 Student Honors Competition to an online only - video entry format. Repertoire for each category will remain the same. However, piano accompaniment is no longer required. Please see updated competition guidelines below.

In an effort to make this an opportunity for all members and to strengthen our already vibrant Colorado flute community the CFA has decided to change the entry fee and prize structure for this year’s competition. We will be offering spots to several students in each category to perform in a Student Spotlight recital in early September to help kick off the CFA’s 29th season. This will be a wonderful opportunity for our community to come back together and celebrate the wonderful talents and accomplishments of our youngest artists.
  • Competition Entry Fee: $5
  • All competitors must be current CFA members. If you have a financial hardship at this time please email us at
  • All competition entries must be submitted as a video. Submissions do not need to be professional quality. Cell phone camera or similar recording devices are acceptable and encouraged.
  • Stand an appropriate distance from the recording device so adjudicators can see and hear you clearly.
  • Record three videos:
    • Video 1: Introduction - state your name, age, and grade level.
    • Video 2: Piece #1
    • Video 3: Piece #2
  • Each piece should be recorded separately. Each video should be one continuous, unedited performance.
  • Members of the Colorado Flute Association Board of Directors will watch the videos and provide comments for each competitor.
    • Those Board members who have students competing will not serve as an adjudicator for that level.

Video Submissions Due – May 15, 2020 by 11:59pm MST

*If you are having issues with submitting videos through the JotForm please email them You will still need to submit the competition application form but you can do so without submitting the videos.*
